Hi :) I am an illustrator based in the south east of England with passion for creating unique pictures of places I visit and filling them with stories. When creating work I want to give the feeling of a snapshot in time, with many stories either side of the scene. I think successful art allows the viewer to make a personal connection with the work in some way, drawing on their own experiences, hopes and dreams.
About my ProcessWhen I see something that catches my eye, a view or subject that inspires me, I start to explore ideas in my mind, layouts, focus and story. If on location I will make a sketch and then take reference photos of the subject so I can capture the details later. Working out the layout, tones and how best to tell a story within the picture comes next. Once I have that I will start to iterate from the rough sketches to work up to a detailed line drawing before looking at colour palettes to help convey a mood. The finished piece typically takes upwards of 20 hours (sometimes over 40). I usually aim to create artwork that will cause the viewer to experience positive emotions and in doing so build a connection with the piece. Artwork that can generate emotion in the viewer has a reason to exist, I think this is the challenge and the measure by which I judge my work. Adding details can go a long way to creating something timeless, something you can't absorb in a single viewing with the energy to delight the viewer for years to come.
